Tasty pseudo-asian all day brunch in the NQ~
There are so many different types of brunch restaurants located in the Northern Quarter, such as Federal Café, Fress Restaurant or Erza & Gil etc. The one S went to that day was Evelyn’s, and it is located in an alley in the Northern Quarter. It does not particularly stand out from the outside so you might easily pass by without paying attention to it.
After entering the restaurant, you’ll find you are surrounded by fresh plants. The plants were unexpectedly fitting with the exposed grey brick wall. The open kitchen allows you to see the dishes been made. Moreover, there are different seating options; from the bar seating area or a long table which can have more than 10 people. Hence, you can come here alone or with a big group of people, it fits a wide range of occasions.
The menus from Evelyn’s are divided for different times of day such as breakfast menu, day menu and evening menu etc. S went there on different days, so S ordered from different menus according to the time S visited. The dishes S tried were Taiwanese roll (£8) and kedgeree (£8.5). Furthermore, S noticed the restaurant put a cucumber slice in the water to give the water a refreshing taste which S quite liked.
The reason of the Taiwanese roll caught S’s eyes on the menu was because S is from Taiwan, so S was quite curious what it would be like. The roll was not really Taiwanese but S could see the mentality behind it. It’s a common breakfast option in Taiwan; a sandwich which has fried chicken, a fried egg and shedded cucumber with ketchup in it. Instead of cucumber and ketchup, the restaurant used spinach and chilli instead. However, the taste was still pretty good, especially the fried chicken which was super juicy and tender.
S decided to try something that she has never tried before the second time she visited. After googling what kedgeree was, S decided to give it a try! Since nothing can go wrong with rice, curry, fish and egg, right? The rice was a bit hard and the curry covered the taste of the smoked haddock. Yet, the dish was still pretty delicious overall.
After visiting this place, S just found an app(The Dealer) which gives 50% off for here but it’s too late for S to use. However, you still can use it! Download the app and enter referral code SAMANTHA63 and we can both earn 10 points which can be spent on free food at any venue! S would definitely go there again with this app!
