Great value on free chip refills for every main you get!
Fosters Fish and Chips is just located at the edge of Didsbury Village and is close to Jarern Kitchen. S has only tried fish and chips once before, and was not a big fan of it. However, the staff was friendly at this place and asked if she wanted to have a seat. Hence, S decided to give it a try!
The interior gave S a joyful and lively feeling when she entered the restaurant. The staff was nice and lead her to the seat efficiently. The restaurant is quite spacious and there’s more space in the back of the restaurant which can accommodate a bigger party.
Since you can’t really find much information about the menu on their website, S will provide the menus here which is lunch menu and standard menu. The lunch menu applies everyday and you can have free chips refills when you get your own main. The dishes S chose that day were from lunch menu, and they were the classic cod(£8) and John Dory(£8). The sides were classic mushy peas and bread & butter.
The size of the cod was not too big for lunch menu but it sure was tasty. S was surprised about how tasty it was since she wasn’t a big fan for fish and chips before. The batter was thin and not too greasy, and the cod inside was tender and moist. Moreover, it went so well with their homemade tartare sauce.
The texture of the John Dory is similar to the cod, however with a more firm texture compared to the cod. Furthermore, the John Dory should have a bit of sweetness though S couldn’t really taste the difference. Yet, if you’re looking for something new to try, you can’t go wrong if you choose the John Dory.
The chips here are in the British traditional style which are freshly cut and chunky. Moreover, they are twice cooked and it gives the chips a soft centre and crispy skin. With the ultimate chips refill, you can be sure you’ll be full and satisfied whenever you visit.
Overall, the fish here was cooked perfectly with the right amount of batter. Moreover, the ultimate free chips is definitely a great value for what you pay for. After having the fish and chips from here, it has given S a total new view for fish and chips. S would now definitely visit here again some other time.
