Forget KFC and McDonald’s, this Taiwanese fried chicken will definitely blow your mind!
Fried chicken has always been one of the famous and common Taiwanese street foods which you can buy anywhere in Taiwan. There’s not a “standard” Taiwanese fried chicken since different places use different marinated sauce and batter. However, the shared feature of Taiwanese fried chicken is that it’s usually a big flat chicken breast with a bit of bone in it.
Monga fried chicken is known for its juiciness and the thickness of the fried chicken when it started in Taiwan. Moreover, the name of Monga is a location in Taiwan which used to be the most prosperous place early in Taiwan’s history. There’s also a second floor for some more seatings with some traditional Taiwanese pictures and costume to dress up in. Therefore, you can choose either to eat in or just take it with you.
The menu is simple and mostly as same as the one in Taiwan. The must order is definitely The King since it is their iconic dish. They also sell the crispy fried chicken which you can see in the picture. Although it’s tasty too, S would still highly recommend their signature item; The King. The one S ordered was Hot Chick (£7.49) which was The King with chilli flavour.
You’ll probably have a short wait since the chicken is always freshly fried after the order. In the photo you can see the size of the fried chicken is way bigger than S’s hand. The chicken was so tender and juicy that the juice inside of the chicken just exploded in S’s mouth the second she bit into the chicken. Moreover, you don’t tastel the grease of the batter since the proportion of the flour was prepared precisely. The most important thing was that it tasted EXACTLY the same as the one S had in Taiwan!
It’s not only fried chicken you can get from Monga, but also fried veggies and some nice Taiwanese drinks. S has to say she was really happy to see that more and more Taiwanese restaurants came to UK to open a branch like the Michelin Taiwanese dumplings; Ding Tai Fung. Overall, if you’re in London China town and haven’t tried the fried chicken from Monga yet, you should really pay a visit!
