Quirky, old-fashioned cafe bar in the heart of Oxford Circus
There are so many nice restaurants to visit in London, so you’ll never have to worry that there’s no place to go. The place S visited that day was The Riding House Cafe; this place has been on S’s list since S was searching for a brunch place to go in London. The restaurant is close to Oxford Circus underground, and is about 7 mins walking distance away.
The outside of the restaurant doesn’t really stand out much. However, the second S entered the restaurant, S fell in love with this place immediately. The open-plan area with a long bar gives the restaurant a lively vibe, and there are also some booths which provides a more quiet and private environment along with the eccentric English decor.
The menu starts from breakfast to dinner and cocktails which means that you can visit here anytime for any occasion. S was going for their brunch menu since S had heard so many good reviews about their brunch. Buttermilk pancakes with smoked streaky bacon (£9.5) and Seasonal mushrooms with poached eggs and toasted ciabatta (£9.5) were the dishes S had that day.
The second S had a taste of the sauce from the seasonal mushrooms toasted ciabatta, “WOW” was the only word in S’s head. You have to trust S that she is really not exaggerating here – the sauce for this dish was amazing! The toasted ciabatta absorbed the sauce and when you eat it with the yolk from the poached egg, it is heaven! S would highly recommend this dish if you try their brunch menu.
S has never had a pancake with a texture similar to the buttermilk pancakes from here before. The biggest difference S would say was that the pancakes here were firmer and closer to a scone-like texture, but it was perfect with the maple syrup which made the pancakes not too dry. Moreover, you can actually taste the buttermilk flavour, not just pure flour.
Overall, S loves the atmosphere and the decor for this place, and the food was also delicious! S would like to try out their lunch and dinner menu the next time S visits London again! Furthermore, there are some events and classes hosted at this place which are definitely worth checking out!
