Amazing value all you can eat Japanese restaurant in Barcelona
S didn’t plan to visit Toya before she visited Barcelona, and she discovered Toyo by just browsing the restaurants on Google Maps around the hotel she stayed. S noticed there are more Japanese restaurants in Barcelona than S expected. Toyo is located in Gracia and the nearest station is Diagonal. Moreover, it’s also very close to La Pepita and Xurreria Trebol.
There are 2 areas in Toyo which are separated by a shop in between. You can choose either part; if your group is smaller and likes to chat, you could sit in the rotating bar area. If you have a bigger group and know what you want, you could choose to sit in the dining area. The staff will bring the food to you if you sit in the dining area.
The price is awesome at just €11 for lunch time and €16.5 for dinner time. S visited twice; the first time was during lunch time in the rotating bar area. The second time was during dinner time in the dining area. It’s easy if you sit in the rotating bar area, you just need to pick the ones you want on the counter. The speed of adding new dishes on the counter was quite fast and there was always something new.
When you sit in the dining area, things get a bit tricky. First the staff will bring you the standard sushi set and the fried food set as you can see from the photos below. Afterwards you can order whatever you like, however, there’s no menu at Toyo. Therefore, the staff will tell you what dishes they have, and you’ll have to order it from what the staff tell you. It can be quite confusing when you first walk in, but just sit down and the staff will serve you.
The sushi set was mainly salmon sushi which was S’s favourite. The sauce on the battleship maki and the seared salmon sushi was a bit sweet. Overall, the sushi set was pretty good and it allowed you to try everything once. As for the fried food set, there was some spring rolls, fried chicken and fried shrimps. The batter was not too thick and oily, yet S prefers sushi in general, so S didn’t eat too much of it. Toyo also has yakitori (Japanese skewers), gyoza and fried rice etc. besides sushi and fried food. The taste of these dishes was also above average which S was quite surprised about, since she thought Toyo main focus was on sushi.
Yakitori Gyoza Fried food set
The most amazing part is that Toyo also serves sashimi, although there’s only 2 options; salmon and tuna. The sushi range that you can choose from Toyo is quite wide but the seafood options are also only salmon and tuna. However, it was enough for S since salmon is S’s favourite. Moreover, Toyo provides many different types of sushi, so you won’t get bored of eating the same thing.
Overall S was super happy when she found this place because it was such a bargain! Especially S always craves some asian food after she has had too many western dishes in a row. Toyo is not something you need to try if you just visit Barcelona as a tourist. However, if you’re a local, S thinks it’s a good place to try when you have some craving for sushi.
