Why not treat yourself for some top quality steak after a long day?
The restaurant is just located in the city centre which is right next to Piccadilly Gardens and it is super convenient to get to. However, it is a bit easy to miss since it’s hidden under a business building and the sign of restaurant is not too obvious.
After entering the restaurant, first you see is the bar area and it is not too big. The left hand side is the seating area, and the staff will lead you to your seat. There are different sections in the seating area, there are small table for 2 people to 8 people where you can have many different kinds of events such as a company party, a birthday meal or just casually meet up with friends.
This is a chain restaurant which is from Scotland, and the menu might be slightly different in different branches. Hence, S will only link the standard menu of Manchester branch. There are also different options of set menu, from £25 to £38 which can be find on their website in the bottom of the post. The starters that day would be Scottish Mussels with White Wine and Cream Sauce (£8.25) and Short Rib Bonbons (£8). As for the main, Classic 340g English Sirloin (£29) and Argentinian Ribeye (£28) were the choices.
Firstly, the short rib bonbons! S only ordered it because of the name “bonbon” at first. However, the taste was also lovely as the name. The burnt onion mayonnaise with the bonbons were a good match. Furthermore, pickle red cabbage also ease the grease of the bonbons which made it more refreshing and not too greasy.
When this dish came out, S was quite surprised with the portion. The portion of the starter for Scottish mussels here was almost the same as the main in Brown Restaurant, besides the mussels in this starter were smaller overall.
As you can see, this medium rare Sirloin steak was perfectly chargrilled and seared. The steak contained evenly lean meat and fats. The texture was firm but not too tough, and S could taste the chargrilled flavour.
As for the ribeye, you can see the clear fat line across the steak which is the iconic feature for a ribeye steak. Furthermore, it was super tender and not too greasy. The chargrilled flavour really gave the steak a richer taste overall.
You can also find the branches in Leeds and Glasgow but not just in Manchester. Furthermore, it also hosts some events like a steak school and a cocktail school which S is quite interested in to attend in the future. In conclusion, if you want to have a good quality steak place, you won’t be disappointed here!
