American classics combined with Scottish traditions!
This place was just located on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and it was just right next to the St. Giles Cathedral, and it was also the main street for the tourists. Therefore, it was easy to find and get to.
Upon entering the place, you can only see the bar and you will be lead to the seating area in the back by the staff. The place was quite spacious and the decor was more like a classic pub with some industrial elements.
There were various burger options on the menu to choose from, such as a standard American burger with some classic mac n cheese or Scottish haggis instead. If you don’t want something standard on the menu, you can also make your own burger!
The Frying Scotsman (£13.45) and Independence Day (£13.45) were the burgers we picked. Since the chips were not included, you have to order your own sides. Therefore, S also got some chicken wings (£5.85) with some round house sauce.
Firstly, the creamy pepper sauce which came with Frying Scotsman was awesome to dip the chips in. Furthermore, the haggis was a bit bitter and salty. However, it was an interesting combination providing a unique taste. Definitely worth try it if you’re looking for something interesting to try.
Independence Day was a classic standard burger with fried pickle on top which gave it an interesting touch. S found it interesting that it seems you can fry anything in Scotland and it would be acceptable, like the fried Mars bar. Hence, it was not so weird to have some fried pickles on the burger. Moreover, the beef patty was thick and juicy with crunchy bacon was a perfect combo.
The chicken wings with the round house sauce had a nice little kick after, but it wasn’t as spicy as S expected. However, it was still nice overall. Furthermore, it seems that there is an event for all you can eat chicken wings for £12 every Wednesday.
Overall, it is a good place to have a meal in the Old Town which is close to every tourist attraction like Edinburgh Castle and St. Giles Cathedral. The fusion between classic American burger and Scottish tradition is a good mixture for the people who want to have a taste of haggis and Scottish cheese.
