The first pan-asian chicken shack in Chorlton, Manchester!
There are so many great independent restaurants in Chorlton, and Peck &Yard is one of them! The restaurant is about 5 minutes walking distance from Chorlton tram station which is easy to get to. The shop owner is from Malaysia which makes S trust that the flavour is closer to authentic asian fried chicken.
The interior is simple and there are some outdoor seats to choose from if you’d prefer to sit outside. The restaurant is not too big, furthermore, you can see the open kitchen from your seat. You can hear the sizzling frying sound while you’re waiting for your food, and it really stimulated S’s appetite!
They have updated their menu below, so The Feast (£19.5) S tried now has increased to £22. There are wings, 4 drumettes, 2 thighs and a breast with 5 sauces, and you can choose 2 sides with it. The sides S chose that day were spicy rice and seaweed fries.
The chicken here is all freshly fried after you order, so you might need to wait a bit for your food. However, the wait is definitely worth it! When the food was served, it surely served its name well, as it was truly a feast.
The 5 sauces from left to right are P&Y house sauce, Koreana, Miyagi, Melayu and Katsu. Koreana sauce is S’s favourite compared to others. It’s not too spicy but having a nice little kick. If you don’t like spicy sauce, S would say Miyagi is the one which tastes quite like Koreana without that little kick but still has a good flavour.
As you can see from the photos, each kind of chicken has a slightly different batter. The chicken wings and the drumettes shared the same type, and the thighs and the breast were also the same.
The batter for the chicken thighs and breast was more fine and stuck to the chicken in general; just like katsu style. Therefore, S guesses that’s why there’s a curry sauce for it. As for the batter for the wings and the drumettes, it was closer to common fried chicken in the UK. The batter was a bit thicker and more crunchy compared the other one.
S was really surprised how good the spicy rice was since you can actually taste the spice. Yet the seaweed fries were not as outstanding compared to spicy rice, it’s just normal fries with seaweed flavour on top. S would love to try their Yakisoba noodles next time which looks absolutely tasty in the photos.
Overall, the chicken was unquestionably amazing! Just a little story besides the food, the day S visited suddenly started to rain very heavily, and the shop owner offered to drive S to the tram station which was super nice. S will definitely visit again and try some of other dishes. If you’re in the city centre but want to have some good fried chicken, Yard & Coop is a also a good place to visit!
