Almost Famous? Already famous!
Almost Famous had been recommended to S a long time ago. Similar to Rudy’s for pizza, if anyone asks for a burger place to go, Almost Famous would definitely be the first suggestion! There are 2 branches in Manchester but only the one in Deansgate opens at noon, so that was the one that S visited!
The restaurant is quite spacious and big, and the decor style is similar to street culture. Moreover, you can see some interesting posters and a big gorilla just in the middle of the restaurant. The menu differs based on different location, for example, This is Manchester is only available at the Deansgate branch.
This is Manchester (£11) and Awesome HQ (£12) with Bacon bacon fries (£4) were the choices S tried that day. Just note that the burger here doesn’t come with chips, so you always have to order chips separately.
This is Manchester is the special which only available In GN branch, and other branches have their own special burger such as This is Leeds and This is Liverpool. The burger itself was not huge but quite thick. The taste of BBQ pulled pork was quite strong which covered most of the other flavours. Moreover, since there were gravy chips in the burger, it turned out to be quite messy after starting it. The gravy just leaked out the burger and made the paper below all soggy and sticky to the burger. However, the taste was quite nice overall!
S loved the fries there since they were a mixture of sweet potato chips and normal chips. Usually S prefers chips with ketchup rather than mayo but this bacon mayo with the bacon rain on top was just unstoppable! S is seriously drooling while writing this part with these bacon mayo chips.
How can you ever resist to buttermilk fried chicken with halloumi and bacon mayo? Don’t be deluded by the photo and think that the burger is small, S actually felt pretty stuffed and struggled to finish the last bit! Unlike This is Manchester, you can finish this burger neatly without getting messy.
The price here was not particularly friendly for a burger place. However, S took advantage of the January deal and luckily got it for half price. S would recommend that you try it at least once due to the fame of Almost Famous, and you can decide if it’s worth the price or not afterwards!
