‘Mash potatoes; the king of comfort food.’

S was walking past this place and the menu with various types mash potatoes caught her eyes. Who can ever resist mash potatoes with some gravy? Furthermore, this place also won the first place in the category of every day dining restaurant on TripAdvisor in 2018. Therefore, S decided to give that place a try that night!

The staff were friendly and efficient by leading S to a seat quickly once S stepped into the place. The restaurant was not big but the space between each seat was still quite comfortable.

The options on drinking menu were quite a lot, S especially recommends Thistly Cross Traditional Draft Cider! It was super fruity and smooth. Furthermore, there were also various kinds of whisky you could choose here since here is Scotland after all! As for the meal menu, it was simple. You can pick your main and choose the type of mash you want. Moreover, there was a special menu on the blackboard if you want to try something different from the standard menu.

The main dishes that day were Slow Cooked Beef Skirt with Scottish Cheddar/Chive Cheese Mash (£15) and Braised Lamb Shank with Spring Onion & Crispy Smoked Bacon Mash (£15).

The lamb shank was tender and the taste of it was rich. As for the mash with spring onion and crispy smoked bacon, and you can actually feel the crunch of shredded smoked bacon and taste the flavour of it.

The slow cooked beef skirt was definitely one of the best slow cooked beef skirt I’ve had recently. The beef was so tender that you didn’t even need to chew it. As for the mash, no one can beat the combination of cheese and potatoes! The mash with stringy cheese was just so tasty that S wished she could order extra as a side!

This restaurant was just in the Old Town of Edinburgh which was really easy to find. Overall, it’s definitely a great place you can pop in and have a lovely meal with your friends. You can also find more restaurant ideas here about Edinburgh!
