A hidden heaven for egg lovers in Kensington, London
Eggbreak is known for its various egg dishes; from the simplest fried eggs to omelettes to even eggy pasta. The cafe is located in Notting Hill London and is only 2 mins walking distance from the Notting Hill Gate underground. The Muffin Man Tea Shop is also not far away which has the best scones S has had in the UK!
There was a 25 mins wait when S visited, however, S got lucky again! The previous customer didn’t show up, so S could get in just after 5 mins wait. The restaurant has a ground floor and a basement, and S was taken to the seats in the basement that day. The staff were super friendly and funny, it was definitely a plus for the dining experience.
Their latest menu can be found on their website, and you can see most dishes contain eggs! However, the ones S had that day was from their old menu. The Mexican Omelette (£11), the Salt Beef hash with Egg (£12) and the Crab Cake with Poached Eggs (£12) were the dishes S tried that day!
As the Crab Cake with Poached Eggs is the front cover for their website, you know what you should order! The dish was two poached eggs on top of spinach and crab cake with sriracha hollandaise, and there was some bread and butter next to it. The sriracha hollandaise gave this dish a perfect touch, especially when you have it with crab cake. After tasting this dish, S can understand why this is on their main page.
There was also salt beef hash with sautéed potatoes with a fried egg on top, which also came with sourdough which made the portion even bigger! The sautéed potatoes were cooked with chilli and peppers, so there was a little kick for this dish but not too spicy. S doesn’t like peppers in general, but otherwise it was quite delicious.
The Mexican Omelette is a vegetarian dish which is cooked with avocado, chilli, spring onion, queso fresco and coriander. Again, the dish was tasty and just because S doesn’t like the taste of coriander in general, S couldn’t enjoy the dish objectively.
Overall S would definitely recommend the Crab Cake with Poached Eggs – their sriracha hollandaise is something you must try! Moreover, the day S visited was also the same day as the gay pride festival, and she noticed that they also gave away free food in support. If you happen to be around the neighbourhood, this is definitely a place to get a nice breakfast to start your day.
