Local secret Japanese restaurant with best value sushi in Withington, Manchester!
Finally S got the chance to introduce this hidden gem since she usually orders delivery from Kyotoya instead of eating in. The restaurant is located in Withington and it is close to Withington library. Don’t be tricked and deterred by the appearance of the restaurant from the outside, because the food will surely make you forget about it!
The restaurant is not big, and you can tell it’s a Japanese restaurant by its decoration the second you step inside the restaurant. The staff were friendly and the service was prompt. Sushi is always the main dish that S orders from here, so mixed sushi 8pcs(£7), 16pcs(£14), salmon nigiri(£6), salmon and tuna sashimi(£7) and the teriyaki salmon bento(£8) from lunch menu are the dishes S has tried so far.
The salmon and tuna sashimi was fresh and with a good portion size. Moreover, the dishes here were all decorated with some fresh flowers that S found quite cute and it was a nice little touch. The amount of sashimi you get for the price is incredibly good value, since most sushi places put a higher price tag on sashimi.
The mixed sushi 8pcs and 16pcs came in a different container; the 8pcs were on a little bridge and the 16pcs were in a big boat. If you don’t have any preference for any type of sushi or nigiri, the mixed sushi option is a good choice since you can try a bit of everything.
Salmon nigiri was the reason S was attracted to this restaurant in the first place. The salmon sashimi on the nigiri had the proper thickness and size which covered the rice underneath completely. Furthermore, the size of the sushi was also a good size as you can eat it comfortably with a single bite.
The lunch menu is definitely a bargain if you visit during lunch time. The portion was generous and the food was all freshly cooked. It’s always nice to have some warm and freshly cooked food for lunch instead of cold sandwich, isn’t it?
Whenever S has any craving for sushi or has a hangover, she always visit here to cure her. If it’s not enough, Sakura Japanese Restaurant which has all you can eat sushi can surely fulfil your needs. A little reminder before you visit here, they only accept cash. Yet don’t worry if you don’t have enough cash on you, as there’s a cash machine just across the street next to the Co-op.
