The one and only Korean fried chicken in Manchester!
Korean fried chicken was the reason that this place caught S’s eye since S went to Korea and loved the fried chicken there. After the first time visit, Chimaek had become the restaurant that S visited the most frequent when S was studying for her postgrad. The restaurant is next to Oishi-Q which is just right near Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). Moreover, it also has a great lunch deal. If you want to try some authentic Korean lunch box, eatGoody is also just around the area.
The decor of Chimeak reminded S of the fried chicken restaurants she went to in Korea. The most common combination to eat with Korean fried chicken is with beer. Therefore, you should definitely order some beer with the chicken. Moreover, you can also get soju here which is a Korean alcohol, and it can be mixed with soda or beer, or you can just drink it neat because it’s super smooth.
There is a chicken menu, a meal deal menu and a special menu which you can find on their website. Here S will only provide the the new items menu which haven’t been updated on their website. 3 pcs meal with hot pepper sauce (£8.3) and army stew (£17) were the dishes S ordered that day.
You can choose the kind of chicken and the sauce for the meal deal. S has tried several sauces already, and the hot pepper and chilli pepper sprinkles are S’s favourite. Moreover, you can choose either rice or chips to go with the chicken as well. There will always be picked radish with fried chicken in Korea, and S loves this combination! The picked radish can reduce the greasy taste from the fried chicken and it’s refreshing too.
The army stew here was quite different compared to the one from Okitchen. However, the taste wass still pretty good. It has all the main materials for an army stew such as spam, hot dogs, baked beans and noodles etc. Furthermore, there are also some mushrooms and fish balls which is a plus.
S wouldn’t say the flavour here is authentic overall, especially the fried chicken. However, it doesn’t mean it’s not tasty. The batter of the chicken is different from McDonald’s and KFC since it is more crispy. Moreover, the honey garlic sauce is also a good choice if you don’t want something spicy.
S still hasn’t found any other Korean fried chicken restaurants in Manchester yet besides Chimaek. Therefore, if you want to try some good fried chicken, this is definitely the place! Moreover, they also do delivery so you can directly order to your place, isn’t that great?
