Trendy, lively and classy atmosphere with great quality food
S was originally planning to visit Cervesería Catalana, but instead she decided to try something different that day. Therefore, S just opened Google Maps and found the place which was the closest with a decent rating on Google reviews. Sometimes you just need to try something different and you might find an unexpected surprise. Vinitus is located in Eixample which is also very close to the famous Casa Batlló.
The interior is very trendy and the staff were friendly. S noticed that there were lots of Asian tourists in the restaurant when S visited, S was a bit worried if Vinitus might be a tourist trap. It turned out that S was worried about nothing, and most of the Asian tourists were from Korea because Vinitus had been introduced on a Korean travel show.
You can see fresh food displayed in front of the bar, and you can pick the items you would like to try by asking the staff. There’s an English menu and it seems that Vinitus has different menus on different days. S was hoping to try some paella but there was only seafood noodles the day S visited. S ordered the Seafood Noodles (€8.7), Mixed Fry (€6.7), Codfish with Honey Allioli (€10.95) and Beef Tenderloin (€4.6).
There were cuttlefish, squid, prawns, clams and some fried jalapenos in the Mixed Fry. The batter was thin and crispy which was not too greasy. It was a pleasant dish which went well with the sangria. S has to mention that the sangria here was sweeter and smoother compared to the one from La Pepita. The Seafood Noodles were only available on the lunch menu, and S was quite surprised when it was served. The Seafood Noodles didn’t look like anything S expected, yet the taste of it was great. It was a bit salty and the portion size of the plate was generous as well, as S thought it might be the same size as a tapas dish.
Mixed Fry (€6.7) Seafood Noodles (€8.7)
The Codfish with Honey Allioli was recommended by the staff and S was so glad she did order this. The allioli is a type of Mediterranean sauce made of garlic and olive oil, and S didn’t know it could go so well with honey. Moreover, the cod was super tender like it could melt the second you put it into your mouth. There was also some tomato sauce in this dish which gave this dish a mixture of flavours of sweetness and saltiness. The surface was singed and it definitely was a perfect touch.
The Beef Tenderloin was also one of the more popular dishes from Vinitus. The staff also recommended the one with beef and foie grass, yet S decided not to eat it again after she tried it from La Pepita. The beef was super tender and juicy, it was definitely cooked perfectly. There was a fried jalapenos on top, but S doesn’t really like the taste of jalapenos in general, so S didn’t eat it with the beef tenderloin and the bread.
Overall, Vinitus is a popular restaurant with a good mixture of tourists and locals. The Codfish with Honey Allioli and the Beef Tenderloin are the must order if you visit. S really enjoyed the atmosphere and dining experience, S would definitely recommend Vinitus if anyone visits Barcelona and wants to try some exquisite tapas.
