If you’re looking for some amazing local food away from the usual tourist spots in Porto, you have to try this place out
The diner is located near the popular Chapel of Souls, but it’s important to note that even though Google Maps states that they open at 8:30, we were informed that they only start serving food at 11:30. The first thing you’ll notice when you arrive is that the staff may not speak English, so it’s a good idea to have Google Translate ready!
We had planned to try their Tripas à Moda do Porto, but unfortunately, it wasn’t available that day, so we opted for the arroz de pato (duck rice) instead. Although it took a while to prepare, the freshly-cooked rice was incredibly flavourful, and the portion size was generous.
As soon as I entered the place, my eyes were drawn to the grill, so I couldn’t resist ordering the chicken. The meat was tender and juicy, but the real highlight was the crispy, charcoal-flavored skin. All it needed was a drizzle of peri peri sauce to take it to the next level. Finally, the octopus salad was a refreshing and flavorful end to the meal.
All in all, it’s definitely something you should try when you’re in Porto – a proper local diner. Additionally, the prices are very reasonable; we paid only €12.50 for two people! However, it’s important to note that they only accept cash, so be sure to have some on hand before visiting.
