Michelin Restaurant Guide; a little gem hidden in China town.
Want to find some good Japanese food, especially sashimi, for a reasonable price? Yuzu is the place you should visit! The location of the restaurant is in China Town which is close to Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester City centre.
The size of the restaurant is not too big with a typical Japanese style decor; the Japanese bar (Izakaya) style makes people who come alone feel more comfortable. Moreover, the decor of the empty Japanese liquor bottles gives you an insight about various types of Japanese liquor.
The price range of the mains here is from £10 to £20 which depends on the dishes that you order, and you can check their menu on their Facebook page below. The lunch menu has quite good value; furthermore, S will provide the lunch menu since you can’t find it online. The food S tried that day was yakitori (£4.5), salmon don from lunch menu (£10.5) and kaisen don (£16.9).
Yakitori is skewered chicken and spring onion with house sauce. The chicken was super tender and juicy; with a mixture of char-grilled flavour and house sauce, it gave this dish a richer taste. This kind of dish is common to order in a Japanese bar (Izakaya) while people having a drink after work or late at night as a snack.
Salmon don is really simple, just salmon sashimi with raw white radish and sushi rice. The staff will give you some soy sauce which you can pour over the fish and rice. However, there was no wasabi in this dish which means you have to ask the staff for it. Unfortunately, they didn’t have wasabi on the day S visited. S thought a proper Japanese restaurant should always have it since they have sashimi on the menu. Nevertheless, the food was still good, and you can get it £3 cheaper with the lunch menu for the salmon don.
There’s salmon, tuna, sweet prawns, and scallops topped with salmon roe in the kaisen don with raw white radish and sushi rice. The portion was average but some people might find it quite small. Moreover, the quality of the sashimi was great and you can actually taste the sweetness and freshness of it.
S would definitely come back for the sashimi dishes, and hopefully they’ll have wasabi next time. Moreover, S also would like to try their other dishes like katsu dishes or udon; since the only katsu place S has visited was Oishi-Q. Overall, S would definitely recommend if you’re looking for some good sashimi don and Japanese food.
