Unexpectedly awesome Thai food in Edinburgh!
S is a person who can’t live without rice or noodles for longer than 2 days. After the second day in Edinburgh, S was desperate to find some Asian food. Luckily, S found this place not far from Royal Mile on Google map. Therefore, S decided to give it a go!
The sign of the restaurant was not very noticeable and it was surprisingly crowded on a weekday at dinner time. S was lucky to get into the restaurant without any wait. The restaurant was quite loud and packed, so you might need to share a table with other people. However, it also means that you could go by yourself and not feel awkward.
The menu was simple with few categories, such as rice & noodles, curry and soup etc. You could choose the choice of meat or veg in your dishes. After a short time googling the images about the dishes, Pad Thai Nua (£6.8), Gaeng Pha Talay (£6.8) and Tom Yam Goong (£5) were the dishes S decided to try!
Every table has this cute little jug which you need to fill your water yourself. The food was served relatively fast considering the crowd and the takeout order from this place. Furthermore, you can also see the half-open kitchen in the back of the restaurant.
S was actually a bit worried when she ordered tom yam soup since some Thai restaurants in the UK would adjust the flavour more for the locals. However, S gladly found this tom yam was exactly how it should taste; sour and a bit spicy.
However, Gaeng Pha Talay was not exactly what S expected. It was in the category of curry, but S found it more like a soup since the sauce was quite watery. The flavour was still good, but if you are looking for more creamy texture type of curry, you should probably choose green or red curry.
The last one was the one S was looking forward to when she saw the picture on Google – Pad Thai. S was totally blown away when S had this since S has never tried Pad Thai before. The flavour of sweetness and peanut mixed perfectly with a tiny bit of the kick of the spice.
Overall, S was really pleasantly surprised and glad that she changed her dinner plan to this place instead of the original one. There was only a bit of inconvenience at this place since they only took cash. Hence, just make sure you have enough cash on you before you come here!
