If you’re looking to try some traditional local Portuguese cuisine, you can’t miss out this place!
I always love to try local cuisine whenever I travel, and O Rápido is definitely a gem for authentic local Portuguese food. Located in the center of Porto, right next to the São Bento tram station, O Rápido offers some amazing Porto local dishes.
It was nearly fully booked when we visited, so make sure to arrive early or make a reservation in advance. They do offer an English menu here, although it’s worth noting that the menu changes daily, so you might not have the same selection as I did. I was thrilled to discover that they served Tripas à Moda do Porto on the day of my visit, as I had been longing to try it ever since my visit to Churrasqueira Lameira.
Tripas à Moda do Porto is a traditional Porto dish which contain beef tripe, white beans, carrots and is usually served with rice. It’s a super hearty and filling dish, and surprisingly it’s a flavour that reminds me of home.
The other 2 dishes that I tried were the Tripa Enfarinhada which directly translates to “fried floured guts” and the veal. The Tripa Enfarinhad is a popular dish in the North of Portugal and I highly recommend you to try it when you see it in Porto. It pairs wonderfully with beer and makes for a delightful snack. As for the veal, it was incredibly tender, and I particularly enjoyed how it was served with a side of crispy chipped potatoes.
Overall, if you’re in Porto and want to try some legit Portuguese food, you HAVE TO give this place a go! I cannot stress enough how highly I recommend indulging in the Tripas à Moda do Porto and Tripa Enfarinhada. These dishes are absolute must-tries when you’re in Porto, and I assure you, you won’t be disappointed.
